Outing Details: The Brookville tailwater, located in Franklin County, IN, is approximately 2 miles in length and is the portion of the East Fork of the Whitewater River below the Brookville Reservoir to its confluence with the West Fork of the Whitewater River. The tailwater is stocked with brown and rainbow trout every spring. Indiana fishing license and trout stamp are required.
This is going to be a wading trip. Due to summertime air temperatures, wet wading is possible, but the water temperature is approximately 56 degrees so you may prefer waders. Wear good soled, non-slip wading shoes/boots/sandals with felt/spikes/etc. Assuming a low water release schedule, it should be easy wading the entire tailwater. However, heavy rains prior to the trip may change river conditions which may make wading difficult or even dangerous. Consequently, we may have to cancel the trip. There are numerous easy walk-in public access points to the river. The town of Brookville is directly adjacent to the river and various fast food and other restaurants avail themselves for breakfast/lunch /dinner meals. This trip will consist of fly fishing Tuesday and Wednesday, overnighting at the Hermitage Bed & Breakfast Tuesday and Wednesday, and fish and return on Thursday. Carpooling from Louisville area may be possible and can be coordinated. Contact the trip coordinator. Reservations at the Hermitage will be handled by the trip coordinator. The price of a room is approximately $85 per night, but the price can be split if you share a room. Credit cards are not accepted (only cash and checks) and is not paid in advance. Again, contact the trip coordinator if you want a roommate to share expenses. The Hermitage Bed & Breakfast is located next to the river and adjacent to the park. It has a large covered porch for gathering, eating snacks, drinking your favorite beverage, shootin’ the bull and sharing other tall tales. For those who stay at the Hermitage, breakfast is included in the price for both Wednesday and Thursday mornings. Currently, we plan on providing lunch Tuesday and Wednesday for a nominal fee. Supper will not be provided, but in the past, we have rendezvoused at a local restaurant or ordered in. For those that come up for the day or have other lodging, you may still get together for fishing, lunch and supper with the club. Contact the trip coordinator for details. It is a great place and a fun time. I hope to see you there.
