SUMMARY:Green River Float Trip
DESCRIPTION:May 6-8 \nNOTE: This trip may be cancelled or rescheduled due to expected unfishable water conditions. Should that happen\, everyone who signed up will be notified as soon as the decision is made and payments refunded. \nLocation: Greensburg\, KY\, Green River Paddle Trail Campgrounds\, 805 Legion Park Road\, Greensburg\, KY 42743 Google Map Link \nThe Paddle Trial Campgrounds are brand new and look to be a great place to stay. They have their very own boat ramp right at the campground. You have multiple floats available and all floats can end at the campgrounds. We’ll do our best to make sure we can shuttle everyone as needed. \nDates: May 6-8\, 2026 (Wed – Fri) \nCoordinator: Pat Brucoli pat@derbycityflyfishers.com 502-541-9011 \nTrip Level: This is a Level 2+ trip — You must be able to handle a canoe\, kayak\, etc.\, in moving water and fly fish from it. Opportunities for fly fishing instruction will be limited. Some short portages will be likely depending on water conditions. \nNumber of Spots: 12 \nA KY Fishing License is required. Click here to purchase. \nOuting Details: This is a float trip since bank and wade fishing are extremely limited. We’ll be targeting smallmouth bass\, but other species are abundant. Watercraft will be limited to kayaks\, canoes\, and the like as sections of the river are shallow and some portaging may be required. Rental kayaks and canoes are available\, click here for more an interactive map of the Green River and watercraft rental information. Personal Floatation Devices (PFDs) are required\, so if you’re bringing your own watercraft be sure to bring a PFD. There are several floats available ranging from 2 to 8 hours. We’ll work out launch and take out access points and shuttles on a day-by-day basis. Click here for a map of the Upper Green River with watercraft access points highlighted (provided by KY Department of Fish and Wildlife as part of their Blue Water Trails series.) \nLodging: We have reserved four cabins that sleep three each\, in various combinations of a couch\, bunk beds\, and/or regular beds. It may be possible to accommodate more\, if there is a fold out couch\, and possible room for air mattresses. Please contact the trip coordinator for details and availability. The total trip cost is $100 which covers both nights accommodations. . We should have access to the Pavilion that is covered and has a firepit and plenty of lighting and picnic tables. You are on your own for meals. SUMMARY:Green-Sullivan State Forest & Shakamak State Park 2026
DESCRIPTION:May 6\, 2025 – May 9\, 2026 \nDates: May 6-9\, 2026 (Wednesday – Saturday)\nCheck-in NET 4pm May 6 th \, Checkout NLT 11am May 9 th\nNOTE: We are not staying overnight Saturday as Sunday is Mother’s Day\n(Optional) Typically\, we meet for lunch at a TBD diner in Dugger\, IN on Wednesday\, get\nour launch permits\, fish that afternoon and get back to the bunkhouses sometime after\n4pm. \nCoordinator:\nJoe Gahlinger\, joe@derbycityflyfishers.com\, 502-472-3975 \nThe Plan: This will be the club’s fourth trip to the area around Linton\, Indiana\, about 2.5\nhours West of Louisville. You can find the 2023 Trip Report on the Website. I’ll provide\nmore details about lakes\, access points and experiences from previous trips as we get\ncloser to the trip. \nWe will be fishing for bluegill and bass in three Indiana State Land areas. \nThe area includes Greene-Sullivan State Forest\nhttps://www.in.gov/dnr/forestry/properties/greene-sullivan-state-forest/ \nShakamak State Park \nhttps://www.in.gov/dnr/state-parks/parks-lakes/shakamak-state-park/ \nHillenbrand Fish and Wildlife Area \nhttps://www.in.gov/dnr/fish-and-wildlife/properties/hillenbrand-fwa/ \nThere are many (about 200) small lakes and impoundments with a variety of\nsmall boat (skiff\, canoe\, kayak\, float tube\, etc.) and bank fishing opportunities.\nShakamak State Park also rents boats with trolling motors. \nWe have rented two cottages (bunkhouses) in the Persimmon Lake Loop which can\naccommodate a total of 16 campers. \nDescription of Waters: This area in Western Indiana is a former coal strip pit area.\nThere are about 120 small lakes in Greene-Sullivan ranging in size from 3 acres to 120\nacres. The Forest itself has many small lakes with over 50 launch ramps; the Dugger\nUnit has 13 launch ramps with somewhat larger lakes. Shakamak has 400 acres of\nman-made lakes with boat ramps\, canoe launches\, fishing piers\, fish cleaning stations\nand boat rental. Hillenbrand has another 25 small lakes. Greene-Sullivan is about 10 \nmiles and 20 minutes southwest of Shakamak. Hillenbrand is about 13 miles southeast\nof Shakamak. \nAccessibility: With all the launch points\, this is an ideal area for small boats including\nkayaks and canoes. Almost all the boat ramps can handle boats like we use on the\nCumberland River; gas motors cannot be used but trolling motors are acceptable. You\nwill need a PFD on your watercraft. \nLevel: This is a Level 2 trip. There will not be dedicated fishers to teach beginners fly\nfishing basics. There may be teachable opportunities\, but there are no guarantees. \nMeals:\n For now\, plan to bring your own lunch\, snacks\, and beverages of choice.\n I will bring the DCFF coffee pot\, filters\, coffee and condiments for the group.\n We plan to have group breakfasts and suppers. Please indicate your willingness\nto cook on the sign up (meals are a team effort\, we just need a head chef for\nplanning and provisioning each meal.) Plan a meal for 16. If you need ideas on\nmeals\, contact me. Cooks should save receipts since these costs are\nreimbursable.\n I’m hoping we catch enough panfish to have at least one fish fry either Thursday\nor Friday evening. So\, bring your filet knives to clean fish and fish\nbaskets/stringers/wells to keep fish.\n There are grocery stores close by\, so we can shop locally and do not have to\npack everything in.\n You need to bring your cooking and meal prep utensils – if you think you’ll need\nit\, bring it! We will have paper plates and bowls\, plasticware\, foil chafing pans\,\npaper towels\, zip lock bags\, cleaning supplies\, charcoal and standard\ncondiments. \nLodging: The Club has rented Persimmon Lake bunk house cottages #1 and #2 in\nthe Shakamak Group camping area. Directions will be provided in the trip updates just\nprior to the trip. Each bunk house has 11 double bunk beds. We plan on 8 campers per\nbunkhouse. Each camper will get a lower berth for sleeping and the upper bunk for\nstorage. The cottages have a kitchen with a full refrigerator\, stove with oven\,\nmicrowave and a sink; we will keep the bunk bed next to the kitchen empty for storage.\nThere are 2 shower stalls\, 2 toilets and 2 vanities. There are two picnic tables and a fire\npit outside.\n We must bring our own linens\, towels\, cookware\, camp chairs\, and eating\nutensils. \n The bunks have a pretty good foam mattress\, and most previous participants did\nnot see a need for air mattresses. Pillows\, sheets\, blankets and/or sleeping bags\nare highly recommended. \n If you want to be in the same bunkhouse as someone else\, please so state in the\nremarks field on the sign up. \n If you want to participate but NOT stay in the cottages\, camping spots and\ncabins are available; you need to make your own arrangements. \n We’ll buy firewood for the group fires. No outside firewood is allowed.\nParking is limited. Carpooling is highly recommended. \nThe plan limits this trip to 16 participants. Registration cost for the trip is $95 (payable\nat sign up) for the three nights and will include the group breakfasts\, suppers and\nfirewood. There may be a cash up-charge if we burn a lot of wood. Any registration fee\nrefund is at the discretion of the DCFF Board. \nFishing License and Permits: (All these costs are in addition to the trip registration\nfee.)\n You need an Indiana Fishing License; these can be purchased on line at Indiana\nFishing License.\n For boat operators\, you also need a Lake Permit ($5/year non-motorized\,\n$25/year motorized (includes trolling motor only watercraft). You can get them at\nany State Park Office including the one at Greene/Sullivan. These permits are\ngood at all Indiana State parks for the calendar year.\n Park entrance fees are $7 resident and $9 out of state; you will get a parking\npass after paying the 1st day entry fee.\nEquipment: 3 to 8 weight fly rods\, but if you want to spin or bait fish go for it. Both\ntopwater and typical nymph flies should work. Bluegill love mop flies and trout magnets!\nSign Up: If you have any questions\, contact Joe at joe@derbycityflyfishers.com or 502-\n472-3975. You must be a current DCFF member to sign up for this trip.\nClick here to sign up.

SUMMARY:Spring 2026 Bardstown Bluegill Trip
DESCRIPTION:Coordinator: Steve Cullen S.Cullen325i@gmail.com ; 502-599-7494 \nThe Plan: This will be the club’s second trip here thanks to the generosity of DCFF\nmember Lou Kaufman who has graciously offered us access to the venue.\nThis trip will be limited to 8 participants due to space constraints on the water.\nThe registration fee is $25 to cover dinner and breakfast as well as firewood.\nWe will be fishing two private lakes near to the area around Bardstown Kentucky\, about\n40 minutes South of Louisville.\nThese are small lakes with limited launch opportunity so we will be limiting this to\nKayaks and Canoes only. Wade or bank fishing isn’t really an option other than one pier\non the larger of the two lakes.\nWe will be fishing for Bluegill and Bass. We don’t plan on any fish fry’s but anglers may\nkeep some of their catch. No limit on Bass\, 10 Bluegill each.\nWe may arrive any time on the afternoon on the 20th and may fish if you like after\nchecking in and getting a little orientation. Supper followed by a fire at the cottage that\nevening. Group Breakfast the morning of the 21st\, after which you may fish either lake for\nas long as you like. \nLodging: Lou has a cottage on the property which he has also made available to us.\nThere’s a large open room room as well as a three season room with plenty of space for\ncots or air mattresses and sleeping bags.\nWe have a kitchen and bath. We must bring our own towels\, cookware\, camp chairs\,\nand eating utensils.\nYou will need to bring your own cot or air mattress\, sleeping bag or linens and blankets\nand a pillow.\nThere are ample electrical outlets\, but you might want to bring a short extension cord\nand/or power strip to handle your electronic needs.\nWe’ll buy firewood for the group fires.\nWe have space to set up popup shelters/canopies if you choose to bring them but we\nhave no plans to bring the clubs.\nWhile we intend to leave the cottage open all day for bathroom access\, we would\nappreciate it if your gear was packed up and out of the cottage after breakfast. \nParking adjacent to the cottage should be ample but… Carpooling would be a good\nidea if feasible.\nWe will be able to drop boats lake side. The property is gated and generally secure but\nyour gear is left at your own risk so please plan accordingly. \nMeals:\nPlan to bring your own lunch\, snacks\, and beverages of choice.\nI will bring the DCFF coffee pot\, coffee and condiments for the group.\nWe plan to have group supper the evening of the 20th and breakfast the morning of the\n21st. Both of those meals are open for a volunteer preparer. (You’ll have help and\nyour offers are greatly appreciated!)\nWe’ll tentatively plan suppers at 7PM but will adjust as needed.\nYou need to bring your cooking and meal prep/serving utensils – if you think you’ll need\nit\, bring it! We will have paper plates and plastic ware. \nDescription: These are small impoundments with a varied shore line.\nDepths can be up to 14 feet\, but most areas are significantly shallower. There are a\nvariety of Bass\, as well as Red Ear and Bluegill in these lakes.\nAccessibility: Access to the larger of the two lakes is firm and relatively shallow in\nslope meaning trailer launch is difficult if not unlikely. Plan on walking your boats in. That\nwill definitely be the case on the smaller lake where launch is limited to a walk in at the\nend of the dam. Gas motors cannot be used but trolling motors are acceptable.\nLevel: This is a Level 2 trip. There will not be dedicated fishers to teach beginners fly\nfishing basics.\nFishing License and Permits: This is private property and fishing licenses are not\nrequired.\nEquipment: 3 to 6 weight fly rods\, but if you want to spin or bait fish don’t hesitate to\nbring your gear. Both topwater and typical nymph flies should work. Bluegills love mop\nflies and trout magnets! While I can’t say what things will be like in October\, the top\nwater bite was good in June though nymphing in deeper water was also productive. \nTo sign up and pay\, please click here.

SUMMARY:Westover Farms Trip\, Steelville MO
DESCRIPTION:March 16 – March 20 (Monday – Friday)\nCoordinator: George Tipker\, george@derbycityflyfishers.com\, 502-594-2066 Jeff Moore 502-386-7958 newsletter@derbycityflyfishers.com\nLocation: Westover Farms\, 546 Highway BB\, Steelville\, Missouri 65565 – (573) 743-6284 (Approx. 1 ½ hour southwest of St. Louis\, MO) (drive time approx. 6 hours). Website link: http://westoverfarms.com/ \nTrip Level: This is a Level 2 trip(see Trip Suitability for details.) This is a wading trip and/or bank fishing. Wading and access to fishing locations are very accommodating. Participants should be self-reliant fly fishers. Individuals are responsible for determining the suitability of this trip with respect to their skill level and expectations. While this is not a beginner trip\, it is an opportunity for anyone who does not need one one one help to trout fish in a beautiful resort setting. \nDescription: Meandering across almost six hundred acres of Westover property\, miles of spring-fed waters offer year-round access to some of the best trout fishing in Missouri. Westover Farms is known as one of the best\nplaces to fly fish in Missouri year-round. Westover Farms is a private remote fishing resort with its own trout hatchery. \nLodging/Accommodations: The Homes At Westover are century-old\, hand-hewn log and stone houses\, purchased\, disassembled and transported throughout Missouri before being rebuilt on the Westover property. The antique\, but modern\, feel of these secluded homes creates a luxury lodging experience at one of the finest Missouri getaways. \nAmenities: Wi-Fi\, Satellite\, TV\, Woodburning Fireplace\, Towels & Linens\, Eco-Friendly Soap & Shampoo. Fully Stocked Kitchen: Includes a full-sized oven\, electric stove\, refrigerator\, microwave\, dishwasher and granite countertops. \nDepending on number of attendees\, we will most likely be staying in the Spring House and the connecting Branch. Everyone will have open access to the Spring House and will be our main gathering area. In the Branch each upscale room is equipped with its own small refrigerator\, microwave and coffee pot (bring your favorite K-cups if you prefer coffee made in your room). \nIn an effort to keep the trip cost down\, participants may be asked to share a king bed. \nMeals: We will have group Breakfasts (Tue -Thur) and group dinners (Mon-Thur). Participants will be responsible for your own lunch meals. Looking for volunteers for meal prep. We will stop in route in Steelville\, MO at the\nCountry Mart Grocery to procure any food items we think we will need. Bringing snacks\, chips\, sweets\, “shareables”\, is always nice. \nWeather in March: Temps can range from average lows 35-40 degrees to average highs around 55 degrees. \nThe Fishing: Monday afternoon/eve\, Tuesday\, Wednesday & Thursday. You may fish all day Friday as well\, but check out is Friday AM and most participants will travel home Friday\, foregoing fishing. In addition to the multiple fishable tributaries originating from the large spring on the property\, there is a natural stream\, Dry Creek\, that flows though the property. (as a general point of guesstimate reference\, Dry Creek is probably just slightly less in size and water volume than our Otter Creek in KY) Staying at Westover Farms allows private access to 2 miles of this trout filled stream. There is also a small spring fed trout lake on the property. Westover Farms has a fishing policy that restricts the total number of fishers on the entire property to just 25 maximum per day. All fishing locations (either fishing the spring\, or Dry Creek (2 mile distance)) are easily walked to\, which means we can walk back to the house and eat\, drink\, snack\, warm up\, and rest\, whenever we want(to take a break\, eat lunch\, dinner etc) . \nStream side fishing and wading is the norm. (bring waders and wading staffs). Felt soled wading boots ARE allowed\, its private property! (all other public waters in Missouri ban felt soles and only rubber soles are permitted in the state. Spikes ARE allowed no matter what\, of course)). A Missouri fishing license is NOT required at Westover (it’s included in our stay). Otherwise daily passes to fish at Westover are $60/day for the general public. Note: Westover is closed to public fishing on Tuesdays\, however since we are lodging on the premises\, our stay allows our group to fish on\nTuesday. \nThe Gear: Three to six weight rods\, reels and lines work well. Trout flies and indicator fishing/dead drifting /nymphing is predominantly the most productive fly fishing technique. High sticking can also be productive. If spring hatches are prevalent\, then top water gets good attention. \nTransportation: Carpooling is the norm. Details will be worked out among\nparticipants and/or trip coordinator. \nThe trip requires a release signature and is limited to 14 participants. Click here to register.

SUMMARY:Otter Creek Trip
DESCRIPTION:Otter Creek Trip February 20th-22nd \nAccommodations: Rustic bunk house located in the campground area Number of Spots available: 8 \nCost: $60 a person Trip Coordinator: Mark Vincent\, mark@derbycityflyfishers.com\, (502) 500-1561. \nLevel 3 Trip: (See Trip Suitability for details). This is a DIY wade fishing trip\, with access to the park provided. Please obey all fishing regulations. For those not familiar with Otter Creek it is located in Meade county about 30 minutes outside Louisville. Well stocked with Rainbow Trout and several access points if you are willing to hike a bit. Due to its proximity to Louisville\, it does receive quite a bit of fishing pressure. Please pay close attention to the weather and bring appropriate clothing and gear. \nEquipment: 2 to 6 weight fly rods. This is mostly a nymph stream\, on occasion a good hatch will occur and dry fly action can be rewarding. Bring the usual fly patterns\, too various to mention\, keep in mind this is really not a beginner trip. Waders are a must\, this is winter so wet wading could be detrimental to your health. Nets will increase your landing percentage and is much easier on the fish. Wading staff can be a good item to have as water could be cloudy depending on what type of weather we have leading up to the trip. \nFishing License and Permits: Kentucky fishing license is required. Make sure you purchase the license before you leave home as internet coverage can be inconsistent. \nThe Plan: You may arrive early on Friday (20th) and fish during the day. We will be having a community dinner that night. Saturday we’ll start with breakfast\, fish during the day\, and dinner that evening\, time to be determined. If the weather permits campfire on Friday and Saturday nights is one of the highlights of the trip\, be sure to bring a camp chair. \nCheck out is on Sunday you may fish as long as you like or until the park closes\, whichever comes first. Cost of meals and lodging are included in the price\, however lunch you will be on your own. Bring snacks and your choice of beverages for the weekend. We’ll be pitching in to assist with cooking and cleaning duties. \nThe bunkhouse has heat\, electricity\, no running water\, no bathroom\, and a small refrigerator. Please bring coolers for your drinks\, lunch items\, snacks etc. Access is provided within the campground to a heated shower house and bathrooms\, bring your own towel and toiletries. You will need a sleeping bag\, pillow\, or whatever sleep system you prefer for a comfortable night sleep. There are 2-3 inch foam pads on each bunkbed\, but they are not the most comfortable. If you have a sleeping pad to place on top of these mats we highly recommend bringing them along. \nEar plugs are not required but strongly encouraged. \nMore details will be delivered to those that sign up. If you have any questions about this trip please contact Mark Vincent (502) 500-1561. \nSign up here.

SUMMARY:Greene-Sullivan State Forest & Shakamak State Park\, IN (Fall Trip)
DESCRIPTION:Dates: November 5 -9\, 2025 \nCoordinator: \n\nWes Krupiczewicz (wes@derbycityflyfishers.com; 502-938-2662)\n\nThe Plan: This will be the club’s fourth trip to the area around Linton\, Indiana\, about 2.5 hours West of Louisville. You can find the 2023 Trip Report on the Website. \nWe will be fishing for bluegill and bass in three Indiana State Land areas. \n\nThe area includes Greene-Sullivan State Forest (https://www.in.gov/dnr/forestry/properties/greene-sullivan-state-forest/)\nShakamak State Park (https://www.in.gov/dnr/state-parks/parks-lakes/shakamak-state-park/)\nHillenbrand Fish and Wildlife Area ( https://www.in.gov/dnr/fish-and-wildlife/properties/hillenbrand-fwa/ \nThere are a large number of small lakes and impoundments with a variety of small boat (skiff\, canoe\, kayak\, float tube\, etc.) and bank fishing opportunities. Shakamak State Park also rents boats with trolling motors.\n\nWe have rented two cottages in the Persimmon Lake Loop and can room a total of 16 campers. The plan is to split meal preparation between the two cabin groups since meal preparation for more than 8 people is difficult. We may be able to combine some meals\, but we’ve got to work that out. \nDescription of Waters: This area in Western Indiana is a former coal strip pit area. There are about 120 small lakes in Greene-Sullivan ranging in size from 3 acres to 120 acres. The Forest itself has many small lakes with over 50 launch ramps; the Dugger Unit has 13 launch ramps with somewhat larger lakes. Shakamak has 400 acres of man-made lakes with boat ramps\, canoe launches\, fishing piers\, fish cleaning stations and boat rental. Hillenbrand has another 25 small lakes. Greene-Sullivan is about 10 miles and 20 minutes southwest of Shakamak. Hillenbrand is about 13 miles southeast of Shakamak. \nAccessibility: With all the launch points\, this is an ideal area for small boats including kayaks and canoes. Almost all the boat ramps are improved so that the small skiffs like we use on the Cumberland River work; gas motors cannot be used but trolling motor are acceptable. You will need a PFD on your watercraft. \nLevel: This is a Level 2 trip. There will not be dedicated fishers to teach beginners fly fishing basics. There may be teachable opportunities\, but there are no guarantees. \nMeals: \n\nFor now\, plan to bring your own lunch\, snacks\, and beverages of choice.\nI will bring the DCFF coffee pot and coffee for the group. We could use another large coffee pot.\nWe plan to have group breakfasts and suppers. Please indicate your willingness to cook on the sign up. Plan a meal for 8. If you need ideas on meals\, contact Wes. Cooks should save receipts since these costs are reimbursable. Wes has a large 2 burner propane stove that he will bring.\nI’m hoping we catch enough panfish to have fish fries. So bring your filet knives to clean fish and fish baskets/wells to keep fish.\nThere are grocery stores close by\, so we can shop locally and do not have to pack everything in.\nYou need to bring your cooking and meal prep utensils – if you think you’ll need it\, bring it!. We will have paper plates and plastic ware.\n\nLodging: The Club has rented Persimmon Lake bunk house cottage #12 in the Shakamak Group camping area. Directions will be provided in the trip updates just prior to the trip. Each bunk house has 11 double bunk beds. Each camper will get a lower berth to sleep and the upper bunk for storage. The cottages have a kitchen with a full refrigerator\, stove/oven and a sink; we will keep the bunk bed next to the kitchen empty for storage. There are 2 shower stalls\, 2 toilets and 2 vanities. There are two picnic tables and a fire pit outside. \n\nWe must bring our own linens\, towels\, cookware\, camp chairs\, and eating utensils.\nThe bunks have a pretty good foam mattress and most previous participants did not see a need for air mattresses. Pillows\, sheets\, blankets and/or sleeping bags are highly recommended.\nIf you want to be in the same bunkhouse as someone else\, please so state in the questions field on the sign up.\nIf you want to participate but NOT stay in the cottages\, camping spots and cabins are available; you need to make your own arrangements.\nFirewood is available for sale in the Park. We’ll buy firewood for the group fires. No outside firewood is allowed.\nWe can set up popup shelters/canopies.\n\nParking is limited. We may want to try to figure out how to carpool for this trip. Other cars may have to park in a group lot which is close to the cottages. \nThe plan limits this trip to 8 participants. Registration cost for the trip is $140 (payable at sign up) for the four nights and will include the group breakfasts\, suppers and firewood. There may be a cash up-charge if we burn a lot of wood. Any registration fee refund is at the discretion of the DCFF Board. \nFishing License and Permits: (All these costs are in addition to the trip registration fee.) \n\nYou need an Indiana Fishing License; these can be purchased on line at Indiana Fishing License.\nFor boat operators\, you also need a Lake Permit ($5/year non-motorized\, $25/year motorized). You can get them at any State Park Office including the one at Greene/Sullivan. These permits are good at all Indiana State parks.\nPark entrance fees are $7 resident and $9 out of state; you will get a parking pass after paying the 1st day entry fee.\n\nEquipment: 3 to 8 weight fly rods\, but if you want to spin or bait fish that is acceptable. Both topwater and typical nymph flies should work. Bluegill love mop flies and trout magnets! \nSign Up: If you have any questions\, contact Wes at wes@derbycityflyfishers.com or 502-938-2662. You must be a current DCFF member to sign up for this trip. \nClick here to sign up.

SUMMARY:Fall 2025 Bardstown Bluegill Trip
DESCRIPTION:Coordinator:\nSteve Cullen S.Cullen325i@gmail.com ; 502-599-7494)\nThe Plan: This will be the club’s first trip here thanks to the generosity of DCFF\nmember Lou Kaufman who has graciously offered us access to the venue.\nThis trip will be limited to 6 participants due to space constraints on the water.\nThe registration fee is $25 to cover dinner and breakfast as well as firewood.\nWe will be fishing two private lakes near to the area around Bardstown Kentucky\, about\n40 minutes South of Louisville.\nThese are small lakes with limited launch opportunity so we will be limiting this to\nKayaks and Canoes only. Wade or bank fishing isn’t really an option other than one pier\non the larger of the two lakes.\nWe will be fishing for Bluegill and Bass. We don’t plan on any fish fry’s but anglers may\nkeep some of their catch. No limit on Bass\, 10 Bluegill each.\nWe may arrive any time on the afternoon on the 7th and may fish if you like after\nchecking in and getting a little orientation. Supper followed by a fire at the cottage that\nevening. Group Breakfast the morning of the 8th\, after which you may fish either lake for\nas long as you like.\nLodging: Lou has a cottage on the property which he has also made available to us.\nThere’s a large open room room as well as a three season room with plenty of space for\ncots or air mattresses and sleeping bags.\nWe have a kitchen and bath. The property is gated and generally secure but\nyour gear is left at your own risk so please plan accordingly.\nMeals:\nPlan to bring your own lunch\, snacks\, and beverages of choice.\nI will bring the DCFF coffee pot\, coffee and condiments for the group.\nWe plan to have group supper the evening of the 7th and breakfast the morning of the\n8th. \nDescription of Waters: These are small impoundments with a varied shore line.\nDepths can be up to 14 feet\, but most areas are significantly shallower.

DESCRIPTION:September 17-19 \nNOTE: This trip may be cancelled or rescheduled due to expected unfishable water conditions. They have their very own boat ramp right at the campground. You have multiple floats available and all floats can end at the campgrounds. We’ll do our best to make sure we can shuttle everyone as needed. \nDates: September 17-19\, 2025 (Wed – Fri) \nCoordinator: Pat Brucoli pat@derbycityflyfishers.com 502-541-9011 \nTrip Level: This is a Level 2+ trip — You must be able to handle a canoe\, kayak\, etc.\, in moving water and fly fish from it. Opportunities for fly fishing instruction will be limited. Some short portages will be likely depending on water conditions. \nNumber of Spots: 12 \nA KY Fishing License is required. SUMMARY:Camp Buffalo Bill Anglers Base Camp (Cody\, WY)
DESCRIPTION:August 24 – August 30\, 2025 (Sun – Sat) (Week/Session 4) \nCoordinator: George Tipker\, george@derbycityflyfishers.com\, 502-594-2066 \nLocation: Camp Buffalo Bill (50 miles west of Cody\, WY) Yellowstone Anglers’ Basecamp is located at\nCamp Buffalo Bill\, a Boy Scout Camp along the banks of the North Fork of the Shoshone River\, just 8\nmiles from the East Entrance of Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. \nTrip Level: This is a Level 3 trip (see Trip Suitability for details.) This is primarily a wading trip. Wading\nand access to fishing locations range from easy to challenging. Participants should be proficient waders\nand self-reliant fly fishers. Individuals are responsible for determining the suitability of this trip with\nrespect to their skill level and expectations. This is not a beginner trip! \nCost: Total $1\,200. Please use the following Boys Scouts of America link for a brief overview of the trip\nand description of what is included AND also to register and pay. Individuals MUST register and pay on\ntheir own directly to Boys Scouts of America Adventure West Council at the following\nlink https://www.anglersbasecamp.org/ Slots are limited to 32 participants\, are open to the public\,\nand are filled on a “first-come-first-served” basis. \nA DCFF Important Special Note: If you are registering\, please also sign up on our DCFF Club Trips sign\nup page Cody\, WY 2025 Trip in order to let the trip coordinator know who all is attending. Here. That way\nfuture communications/trip meetings/transportation/etc. information can be disseminated by the\ntrip coordinator. \nDescription: One week of fishing some of Wyoming’s finest trout waters near the East Entrance of\nYellowstone National Park. Base camp is located on the banks of the North Fork of the Shoshone River\nin the Shoshone National Forest — a blue ribbon\, freestone trout fishery. Access also to waters in\nYellowstone and others in Northwest Wyoming. Cost includes six nights lodging\, three meals/day\,\nunlimited snacks and fruit; laundry facilities; transportation to/from Cody Airport; and daily\ntransportation to/from fishing locations of your choice in the area. \nThe Area – Northwest Wyoming has some of the most scenic territory you will see anywhere. Populated\nby numerous wildlife species — bear (including Grizzlies)\, mule deer\, elk\, bison\, coyote\, fox\, and more.\nTruly a beautiful part of our country. \nWeather in August – Temps can range from 30’s to 90’s with averages ranging from mid-50’s to mid-\n80’s. It has snowed in late August; in fact\, it snowed the week following the 2020 Group’s trip. It does\nrain\, with thunderstorms and hail possible. Camp elevation is 6\,400 feet above sea level and the air is\ndry. Staying well hydrated is essential to cope with both the elevation and arid air. \nBase Camp – The camp is located on the Shoshone River where there are miles of fishing opportunities.\nAccommodations are rustic. Cabins consist of bunk beds with a couple of small tables. There is marginal\ncell service and wi-fi . There are also two (2) land line phones on site for general use\, if necessary. Cabins\nhave electricity but no heat or AC. Each cabin has windows that can be opened and a fan. You will be\nresponsible for your own linens\, towels\, sleeping bag and pillow. Laundry (free) facilities are available on\nsite. There is a heated shower house with ample showers and facilities. The center of camp activity is the \ndining hall where all the gatherings and fellowship occur. This is a large building that is open 24 hours a\nday with complimentary snacks and drinks available. Three meals are provided daily. \nThe Staff – The staff is knowledgeable and accommodating. They will take you wherever you want to go\non the river and return to pick you up. The camp has four- six vans\, and the staff will transport you up or\ndown stream to many fishing locations. If at least 5 folks want to go to Yellowstone fishing locations (a\n1-1/2-hour drive one way) or to Jackson Hole and the Grand Tetons (a long all-day trip)\, they will\narrange for that also. For days you want to get out early\, a continental breakfast will be waiting for you\nat departure. If you want to stay out longer\, sandwiches are prepared to take with you. If you wish to\ntake professional guided trips out of the fly shops in Cody\, a van will take you to/from Cody as well.\nThe Fishing – The fishing is quite different from around our area. “Humbling” seems the most common\ndescriptor. The water is gin clear\, fast\, and skinny. Wading and walking alongside the river is not easy\,\nwith rocks from pebbles to boulders ranging from basketball to refrigerator size. Expect to catch\nrainbow\, brown\, and cutthroat — many in the 15+ inch range. They are wild fish that are finicky and\nspooky. A 10-fish day is an exceptional day. \nThe Gear – Three to six weight rods\, reels and lines work well. Nymphing is by far the most productive\nmethod\, but flies need to be heavier than we would normally fish in our area. The water is quick and\nskinny\, and drifts are short\, so the flies need to get down fast and stay down. We’ll have more\ninformation on flies and techniques in the coming months. \nThe Adventure – This trip is about 50% fishing and 50% adventure. Getting to some of the fishing holes\nis an adventure in itself\, with challenging terrain and critters aplenty. A favorite non-fishing adventure is\na hike to a unique rock formation along a mountain ridge about 1000 ft above the camp. This is a\nchallenging hike but universally agreed by those who did it to be one of the most enjoyable and\nmemorable activities of the trip. \nThe staff can provide a trip to Cody one evening for dinner and a rodeo. Cody is an old town with a lot of\nhistory and interesting restaurants. Of course\, there are trips to Yellowstone mixing sightseeing and\nfishing on the Yellowstone River. \nCost – The entire week costs $1200. You are responsible for your own transportation to Cody WY.\nFlights range from about $500 to $1200 depending on baggage charges\, etc. A 5-day Wyoming non-\nresident license is $56\, and an additional day is $14. If you go to Yellowstone\, there is an additional\nlicense requirement but it’s nominal and can be purchased online. \nClothing & footgear\n Bring clothes for cool to cold evenings and warm to hot days.\n Sandals\, casual sports shoes\, wading boots . Hiking boots if you plan to go hiking.\n Include warm sleeping clothes or have a cold weather sleeping bag.\n Don’t forget sunscreen and insect repellent. Bear spray will be provided. (Buddy fishing is highly\nrecommended because of threat of bears.)\n You’ll need waders and wading staff. Felt soled boots w/spikes are okay everywhere\, except\,\n… No felt soles in Yellowstone!! Plan your boot selection(s) accordingly.

SUMMARY:Cumberland River Trip (Helm’s Landing) August 2025
DESCRIPTION:Location: Riverside Retreat\, Helm’s Landing \nDates: Lodging — August 15th – 16th (Fri & Sat nights) Fishing – Sat. 16th & Sun. 17th \nCoordinator: Brian Kaluzny\, brian@derbycityflyfishers.com ; 502-472-3975) \nLevel 3 Trip: This is a trip for experienced anglers and there will be limited opportunities for training (see Trip Suitability for details). All boaters should have experience in moving waters. When generation starts on the Cumberland\, water levels can quickly rise 15 feet or more. A PFD is required for all boaters. \nNumber of Spots: 8 \nEquipment: 3 to 8 weight fly rods. Smaller rods are appropriate for nymph fishing while 8 weight rods are a better choice for streamer or “hopper/dropper” fishing. Flies include #8 to #18 nymphs\, including stone flies\, pheasant tails\, hare’s ears\, prince\, copper john’s\, midges\, and most other trout flies like mop and egg patterns. Black\, white and olive wooly buggers are good streamers. Prominently white shad imitations work well and provide a visual fishing experience when fished from a boat. Hoppers and other terrestrials will take fish in August when fished along walls and high banks. \nFishing License and permits: You will need a Kentucky fishing license and trout permit. Click here to purchase. There is a $5 vehicle fee to use the Kendall boat ramp at the dam. This fee is waived with a National Park Pass. \nThe Plan: The club has reserved all 4 rooms at the Riverside Retreat at Helm’s Landing for this outing. Cost is $120 per person for the two nights\, assuming double occupancy in each room; registration and full payment is required to secure your bed. Note that due to escalating costs\, we may have a cash surcharge in addition to the registration fee. Any refunds for cancelations are at the discretion of the DCFF board. There are 8 spots on the sign up. Anyone wanting to stay over only 1 night will be accommodated as floor space allows – contact Brian regarding availability of space. \nDescription of the Waters: In 2025\, we can expect some sort of a generation schedule with little to no flow in the early morning and generation starting sometime between dawn and early afternoon. This trip should be considered primarily a boating or floating trip with the possibility of wade fishing on various shoals accessible by boat. We will launch at Helm’s Landing with the Kendall ramp and Winfrey’s Landing ramp as options and your preference. There is also the possibility to wade fish Hatchery Creek. Go to the Stream Information – Cumberland River page on the DCFF website for more information about the river\, possible floats in the upper section of the river\, and alternative launch locations. If we get a lot of rain and high-water levels on the tailwater\, there is always the potential to fish for bass or panfish on Lake Cumberland itself. \nDepending on water conditions and the generation schedule\, virtually any small craft can be used on the river. At 2 or more generators or during high winds\, the river will be “pushy” for inflatable pontoon boats; canoes and kayaks are better\, but skill will be required to safely use them under generation flow conditions. Small motor-powered craft are the best option if the operator knows how to avoid river obstructions like rocks and logs. It will be your responsibility to secure a craft and/or find a buddy with a craft. You can follow other experienced members on the river\, but you need to know how to navigate and operate your boat. Also\, recognize the need to practice safe boating techniques on the Cumberland; wear a life jacket when you are underway and if you get dumped into the river get to shore ASAP – hypothermia will take over quickly with the water temperatures in the 50s year-round! \nLodging: There are 8 beds available in the rooms. Linens and towels are provided. Each room has a cooktop stove (no oven)\, microwave\, small refrigerator\, coffee maker (bring your own coffee and condiments). Dishes\, flat ware and cooking utensils are available\, but if you need something specific for meal preparation\, plan to bring it. There are charcoal grills on the deck. You are expected to do your dishes and keep the rooms clean. Please do not leave trash or garbage on the deck – raccoons are a problem. \nMeals: Breakfast and Lunch are on your own. Supper provided Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:00 eastern daylight saving time. Helm’s Landing is on Central time. We traditionally share supper; volunteer cooks are always appreciated\, and your food costs are reimbursable\, so save those receipts. Bring a camp chair to enjoy the fire in the evening (assuming we can source the wood). Your payment includes the cost of suppers and firewood. \nSign Up: If you have any questions\, contact Brian at brian@derbycityflyfishers.com; (502) 724-3487). You must be a current DCFF member to sign up for this trip. Click here to sign up.

SUMMARY:Obey River Tailwater Trip
DESCRIPTION:Obey River Tailwater Trip \nLocation: Obey River Tailwater (Celina\, TN) \nDates: July 9th – 11th (Wed – Fri) (arriving Wed Jul 9th late afternoon/evening) \nCoordinator: Joe Gahlinger (joe@derbycityflyfishers.com\, 502-472-3975) I’ll contact participants several weeks in advance of the trip to finalize details. We can coordinate put in times/locations\, arrange shuttles for kayakers if necessary\, make sure first timers are buddied up with a veteran to help navigate the river (no guarantee they will show you their honey holes\, but you might try a bribe;-) and talk about eating arrangements. \nLevel 2 Trip: This is rated a Level 2 Trip (see Trip Suitability for details.) Boat operators should have experience navigating shallow water rivers and dealing with rising water from dam releases. Kayakers\, canoeists\, etc.\, should have experience fishing from a kayak in moving water. PFDs are required for all. \nNumber of Spots: Unlimited \nThe Plan: We’ll arrive Wednesday afternoon/evening and fish the Obey on Thursday and Friday. Note: There is a Cumberland Tailwaters trip scheduled for 11 thru 13 July at Helm’s Landing. If you desire\, you can fish the Obey on Thursday and Friday then travel to the Riverside Retreat at Helm’s Landing Friday afternoon/evening to fish the Cumberland on Saturday and Sunday. Note: These are separate trips and you must sign up for each of them separately. \nDescription of the Waters: The Obey River Tailwater is a 7 mile stretch of the Obey River that runs between the Dale Hollow Lake Dam and the Cumberland River. The river is stocked with rainbow and brown trout year-round. Club members have caught both species in good numbers and sizes (it is not uncommon to hook up on 18+ inch fish.) The river is subject to rapidly changing conditions based on the dam release schedule. It is a narrow river with high banks\, thus when dam release begins the river rises rapidly by as much as 12 to 15 feet. The upper half of the river is shallow during non-release periods but can be navigated carefully by shallow draft motorboats. The lower half is deeper and easily navigated at low water. Google Map Link \nAccessibility: Wading is limited and mostly only accessible via watercraft. So\, this will be a float trip (shallow draft motorboats\, kayaks\, canoes\, etc.) There are three concrete boat ramps (no docks or piers) along the river with ample parking available. We typically launch and recover motorboats at the Donaldson Park ramp\, which is at the lower end of the river. We motor up 2.5 to 5 miles depending on water conditions and fish our way back down to the ramp. For those with kayaks\, canoes\, etc.\, we’ll organize shuttles for launch and take out. If you do not have a watercraft but would like to come on this trip\, contact Joe Gahlinger for help in getting a seat – but no guarantees. DO NOT SIGN UP until you have made boating arrangements. \nMeals: All meals are personal responsibility. Depending on your lodging arrangements there may be informally organized dinners at a local restaurant. See Lodging options below for in-room cooking amenities. \nLodging: There are a few lodging options: \n1. Riverfront Lodge\, Burkesville\, KY – We have four rooms reserved for Wed and Thur nights (Jul 9th & 10th) for $80/night/room (taxes and fees included). To claim one of these rooms\, call 270-864-3300 and ask for rooms reserved under Joe Gahlinger\, Fly Fishing Group. Rooms are two queen beds\, free Wi-Fi\, microwave\, mini fridge and coffee maker. About 25 minutes from Donaldson Ramp on the Obey. Ample parking and several charging stations in rear for trolling motor battery charging. \n2. Valley View Motel\, Celina\, TN – This is a no-frills motel we’ve used in the past. It’s biggest advantage is that it is five minutes from the Donaldson Ramp. They are under new ownership since our last trip and there are a few changes. They now have a mini-fridge and coffee maker but still no cooking in rooms. These are small\, basic rooms so temper your expectations. They are clean and serviceable. The price has also increased\, it is now $80/night/room (taxes and fee included.) There are two standard beds per room\, so room sharing is pretty economical. Boat trailer parking is tight but manageable. Let them know when you make a reservation that you are bringing a boat and they will help you out with parking. You’ll need a long (50′ at least) extension cord to charge trolling motor batteries\, so bring your own. Also\, bring a 3-prong to 2-prong electric outlet adapter. I don’t know if the new owners have upgraded outlets to 3-prong grounded outlets. Call 931-243-2641 to make reservations (no rooms have been held for this trip.) \n3. Campsites are available at the Dale Hollow Damsite Campgrounds immediately adjacent to the boat ramp just below the dam. You can get Campground information and make reservations at https://www.recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/232564 \nFishing License and permits: You will need a Tennessee All Species fishing license. A 3-day non- resident with Trout permit costs $40 (+$3.52 Handling Fees.) An annual non-resident with Trout permit costs $98.00 (+$3.52 Handling Fees.) You can get more information and buy licenses here. \nSign Up here. \n

Note that due to escalating costs\, we may have a cash surcharge in addition to the registration fee. Any refunds for cancelations are at the discretion of the DCFF board. There are 8 spots on the sign up. Anyone wanting to stay over only 1 night will be accommodated as floor space allows – contact Wes regarding availability of space. Also\, recognize the need to practice safe boating techniques on the Cumberland; wear a life jacket when you are underway and if you get dumped into the river get to shore ASAP – hypothermia will take over quickly with the water temperatures in the 50s year round! We traditionally share supper; volunteer cooks are always appreciated\, and your food costs are reimbursable\, so save those receipts. Bring a chair to enjoy the fire in the evening (assuming we can source the wood). Your payment includes the cost of supper and firewood. \nSign Up: If you have any questions\, contact Mark at mark@derbycityflyfishers.com or 502-500-1561. You must be a current DCFF member to sign up for this trip. Click here to sign up.

SUMMARY:Greene-Sullivan State Forest & Shakamak State Park\, IN (Spring Trip)
DESCRIPTION: \nDates: May 7 -11\, 2025 \nCoordinator: \n\nWes Krupiczewicz wes@derbycityflyfishers.com; 502-938-2662\n\nThe Plan: This will be the club’s third trip to the area around Linton\, Indiana\, about 2.5 hours West of Louisville. We will have paper plates and plastic ware.\n\nLodging: The Club has rented Persimmon Lake bunk house cottages #1 and #2 in the Shakamak Group camping area. \nThe plan limits this trip to 16 participants.

SUMMARY:Otter Creek Trip (FULL)
DESCRIPTION:February 28-March 2nd \nAccommodations: Rustic bunk house located in the campground area \nNumber of Spots available: 8 \nCost: $60 a person \nTrip Coordinator: Mark Vincent\, mark@derbycityflyfishers.com\, (502) 500-1561. \nFishing License and Permits: Kentucky fishing license is required\, expiration for the 2024 season is on the 2/28/25. Make sure you purchase the 2025 license before you leave home as internet coverage can be inconsistent. \nThe Plan: You may arrive early on Friday (28th) and fish during the day. We will be having a community dinner that night. Saturday we’ll start with breakfast\, fish during the day\, and dinner that evening\, time to be determined. If the weather permits campfire on Friday and Saturday nights is one of the highlights of the trip\, be sure to bring a camp chair. Check out is on Sunday you may fish as long as you like or until the park closes\, whichever comes first. \nCost of meals and lodging are included in the price\, however lunch you will be on your own. \nYou will need a sleeping bag\, pillow\, or whatever sleep system you prefer for a comfortable night sleep. There are 2-3 inch foam pads on each bunkbed\, but they are not the most comfortable. If you have a sleeping pad to place on top of these mats we highly recommend bringing them along. \nEar plugs are not required but strongly encouraged. The Trip Signup is live\, click here to register. \nIf you have any questions about this trip please contact Mark Vincent (502) 500-1561.

SUMMARY:Cumberland River Trip (Helm's Landing) September 2024
DESCRIPTION:Location: Riverside Retreat\, Helm’s Landing \nDates: September 13th – 15th (Fri – Sun) \nCoordinator: Wes Krupiczewicz wes@derbycityflyfishers.com or 502-938-2662 \nLevel 3 Trip: This is a trip for experienced anglers and there will be limited opportunities for training (see Trip Suitability for details). Hoppers and other terrestrials will take fish in August and September when fished along walls and high banks. Cost is $110 per person for the two night weekend\, assuming double occupancy in each room; registration and full payment is required to secure your bed. \nDescription of the Waters: In 2024\, we can expect some sort of a generation schedule with little to no flow in the early morning and generation starting sometime between dawn and early afternoon. This trip should be considered primarily a boating or floating trip with the possibility of wade fishing on various shoals accessible by boat. Also\, recognize the need to practice safe boating techniques on the Cumberland; wear a life jacket when you are underway and if you get dumped into the river get to shore ASAP – hypothermia will take over quickly with the water temperatures in the 50s year round! We traditionally share supper; volunteer cooks are always appreciated\, and your food costs are reimbursable\, so save those receipts. Bring a chair to enjoy the fire in the evening (assuming we can source the wood). Your payment includes the cost of supper and firewood. \nSign Up: If you have any questions\, contact Wes at wes@derbycityflyfishers.com or 502-938-2662. You must be a current DCFF member to sign up for this trip. Click here to sign up.
