SUMMARY:Fly Tying - Bass Pro
DESCRIPTION:Club Member Dave Conroy is going to demonstrate tying the Aurora nymph\, it is a great fly for trout in spring thru early summer. It can also be tied with a dubbed body for trout and panfish. Rubber leg nymphs like this are just about his favorite flies to tie and fish. The movement of the legs and tail and the overall buggy appearance make them real fish catchers. \n \nHere’s the recipe for the Aurora Nymph fly. \nHook: size 12 or 14 scud or size 12 or 14 jig. \nBead: 1/8″ for size 12\, 7/64″ for size 14\, gold or copper. \nThread: 8/0\, black or olive. \nTail and legs: fine round rubber\, brown or tan. \nBody: UTC mirage tinsel\, size large. \nRibbing: small gold or copper wire. \nThorax: peacock ice dub. \nWing case: UTC mirage tinsel\, size large. \n  \nOur Fly-Tying Classes are open to everyone – you do not have to be a member to attend.  Generally\, we tie one fly\, but we tie it twice.  An instructor demonstrates\, step-by-step\, how to tie the fly with accompanying video on a big screen TV so students can see each step. \nTools and materials are provided at no cost\, but if you have your own tools feel free to bring them. \nBeginners are welcome.  There will be experienced tiers available to provide individual help.

SUMMARY:J. Graham Brown High School Fly Fishing Club
DESCRIPTION:DCFF is doing our part to help our youth get out on the water\, because “take a kid fishing” has always been a great idea. For a third year\, DCFF has been asked to continue our Youth Outreach Program with J. Graham Brown High School. \nTheir High School Club meets one or two Friday mornings a month at the school beginning about 9:15 am (you should be there by 9:00am.) Meetings start the week of September 6th and conclude December 13th. We usually host a graduation fishing trip to Floyd’s Fork. \nNote: The address provided below is actually the YMCA parking garage on 2nd Street.  After entering and taking your parking ticket (will be validated at the school office) proceed to either the 3rd level catwalk (for indoor meetings) or 4th level (for outdoor meetings.) \nWe have always had a great team of DCFF volunteers assisting and look to you for continued support. You do not want to miss out on this rewarding experience and you don’t need to attend every session to participate. There will be weeks when only two or three DCFF volunteers are needed. You don’t have to be an expert in all areas of fly fishing\, just basic knowledge and proficiency is all that is required. \nMike Parker will be the DCFF coordinator for this program this year. You can contact him for questions/information about the program and volunteer needs for each club meeting (kayakonthefly@gmail.com\, 530-440-5645) \nIf interested in volunteering\, contact John Froehlich (270-314-0362\, education@derbycityflyfishers.com.) He will assist with getting you setup as a volunteer and add you to the contact list the group.

SUMMARY:Taylorsville Lake Fish Habitat Project
DESCRIPTION:DCFF has been invited to help with this project and we would like to provide 3 volunteers each day. If\, after reading the project description below\, you decide you want to help out please click here to signup. You can volunteer for one or more days. \nThis is a great opportunity to help improve the fishery habitat on one of the most popular lakes in central Kentucky and become better acquainted with some of the KDFWR staff. \nThe DCFF point of contact for this project is Jeff Daiber (DCFF Conservation Director) (Jeff.Daiber@outlook.com\, 502-544-6630) \nMore details will be provided as they become available. \nThe Central Fisheries District (CFD) of the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources (KDFWR) is planning to complete a cedar tree habitat project at Taylorsville Lake where cedars are cut from the shoreline and placed into the water to resemble natural hinge cut trees. This project is in cooperation with the Taylorsville ACOE Office and Taylorsville Lake State Park. The work is scheduled for the week of December 2nd-6th – but they only need our help the 3rd through the 4th. If the weather or lake levels don’t allow for this work\, the back up will be the following week. The game plan will be to have 12 staff/volunteers on the ground each day to cover the operations of Nick’s Habitat Barge\, Chad’s Habitat Barge\, shoreline crew blocking trees and a chainsaw crew. \nThe plan is for the DCFF volunteers to meet the others at the Settlers Trace Marina Boat Ramp on Taylorsville Lake at 9:30 am and work til about 3:00 pm.

SUMMARY:Monthly Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Meetings are open to everyone\, you do not have to be a member to attend.  Typical format: 10-15 minute “Tackle Time”  presentation on some aspect of Fly Fishing followed by a business segment to introduce new members and guests\,  take questions and get updates on fishing from attendees\, announce/discuss upcoming events/trips\, and conduct any required club business. All this is followed by a 30 – 45 minute presentation by a guest speaker on a fly fishing related topic. \nAt this meeting the main business item will be the election of Board of Directors members for 2025.  You can view the slate of candidates here. We need  10% of the membership (minimum 24 members) present to vote to constitute a quorum.  Please plan to attend and vote. \nThe evening’s presentation will be focused on water quality in the Floyds Fork watershed. Trent Winlock\, from the Metropolitan Sewer District\, will be the presenter. He’ll talk about the definition of water quality – specifically\, what it means for habitat\, fish\, and the humans who pursue them. He’ll also look at the details from three study locations along Floyds Fork – and what those numbers tell us about the health of the waterway.  \nTrent is originally from Louisville and learned to fly fish on Kentucky’s trout and smallmouth streams. During his 20s he moved west to pursue a river dream of fishing and guiding bigger waters. Countless hours in the sun fostered a deep love for fishy environments – and a great desire to protect them. He eventually moved back to his hometown\, where he works for MSD\, keeping tabs on the health of the streams of Jefferson County. \nAs usual we will have DCFF gear and apparel available for purchase as well as a chance to win items from an assortment of gear and materials donated by club members.
