Kentuckiana Fly Fishing Show – 2018 Recap
The Derby City Fly Fishers 13th Annual Kentuckiana Fly Fishing Show, January 27, 2018, was one of our best shows yet! This was the third year in our new venue at Paroquet Springs Conference Centre in Shepherdsville, Ky. The show had something for everyone, from the seasoned fly fisher to the person who has never fly fished, to the children who came with their parents.
Our vendors included the area’s local fishing outfitters, vendors selling fly tying materials, vendors with fly rods of all weighs and lengths, state and national wildlife agencies, and booths for the younger set which included the Kids Fly Tying Corner and the study of bugs and insects that inhabit our local waters. This year we also had three lucky kids, 12 years and younger, receive a complete fly rod outfit! We plan to make this an annual event.
The Iron Fly Tying Contest, an annual event at the show, was enjoyed by the fly tyers who participated. Contestants are to use all given fly tying materials to tie a fly to be judged on its worth as a fishing fly. A casting area was also available for instruction of fly casting or trying out a rod before purchasing. With seminars about fishing the Cumberland River and the rivers of east Tennessee, the attendees of over 450 had plenty to keep them busy.
Remember; the 14th Annual Kentuckiana Fly Fishing Show will be on January 26, 2019, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm at Paroquet Springs Conference Centre in Shepherdsville, Ky. We hope to see you there!!
