Outing Details: We’ll be staying in the Maggie Valley, NC area and fish several of the delayed harvest (i.e., catch and release) streams in the area. The Tuckasegee River, West Fork of the Pigeon River, the Upper Nantahala River, Laurel River, Davidson River, and the Shelton-Laurel Creek are all within a 1 hour drive of Maggie Valley and provide some of the best fishing in the area. Past trips have produced a very successful catch with fish in the 17-20 inch range common.
Lodging: You will be responsible for making your own lodging arrangements. On the past several trips most participants have stayed at the Jonathan Creek Inn in Maggie Valley www.jonathancreekinn.com. It is a very nice hotel, convenient to restaurants (breakfast joint right across the street and numerous options for dinner up and down the strip) and sits on Jonathan Creek with a comfortable gazebo on the creek for evening gatherings. If you prefer to be closer to Waynesville try the Econo Lodge in Waynesville, NC (828-246-6201.) The Econo Lodge provides a complimentary continental breakfast starting at 6:30am.
Meals: You will be responsible for all meals. Usually, we arrange a group dinner at a local restaurant on Thursday and Friday evenings for those who are interested. The trip coordinator will gauge interest and make arrangements as needed.
The three-night trip will cost approximately $350 – $400 per person for lodging (based on shared room), license, gas and food; there is no deposit required as each participant is responsible for their own costs. You will also be asked during sign up if you are willing to share a room and if you want to carpool.
