Events and Fishing Trips

Welcome to the Derby City Fly Fishers calendar of Events and Trips!  All events are free an open to the public except for the Fishing Trips.  For insurance liability reasons, you must be a current club member and register to participate as part of the Fishing Trip  group.

The actual calendar is in the “Events” tag.  You can view our calendar as a standard monthly calendar or by using the list feature.

Board meetings are the 1st Wednesday of each month – everyone is welcome.

On the 2nd Wednesday, folks gather informally for “Eat and Talk Shop”.

The 3rd Wednesday is our general club meeting.  During January, February, March, April, September, October and November the meetings are indoors and usually include “tackle time” with a practical discussion of fly fishing technique and a formal presentation by an outside speaker.  During May, June, July and August, the meetings are outdoors at local parks or lakes.  At the outdoor meetings there is a catered supper ($5 per person) and casting instruction.  During December, we have a potluck Christmas party where spouses and significant others are encouraged to attend.

The 4th Wednesday and the Thursday after the 4th Wednesday, we do Fly Tying Instruction.  We are at Cabela’s on Wednesday and Bass Pro on Thursday.  The same two flies are tied at both locations. The instructor provides all materials and leads the class.  There are generally a number of helpers to give one-on-one instruction to new students.  We tie at a pace to keep the slowest student at the same step as the rest of the class.  You keep the flies you tied – for free and with no continuing obligation!
