We had an outstanding event at Otter Creek on Saturday November 4! About 36 people participated in the Beginners Outing, more or less, We had about 21 students, 10 instructors, and 5 observers. They included 4 high school student from Graham Brown School that John Froehlich has been mentoring in fly fishing. The instructors were great. We were able to pare up students with instructors on the water and most of the kids and newbies caught their first fish on the fly! The hot dog and chili lunch was well received and we went through 48 dogs and buns. Thanks to Mike Raegan for the chili which was a "hot" item. Based on the comments I heard, we should get 6 to 8 new members because of the outing. A number of participants could not believe that 10 club members would spend a Saturday to help a bunch of strangers - my reply was that is what we do - instruct folks in the art of fly fishing. Thanks again to all club members who volunteered as instructors - this could not have happened without you. If you have any pictures from the event to add to those below please sent them to Joe Gahlinger (joe@derbycityflyfishers.com) and he will post them to this gallery.
