Fly fishing in and around Louisville Kentucky
January 22 @ 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm
Club Member Dave Conroy is going to demonstrate tying the Aurora nymph, it is a great fly for trout in spring thru early summer. It can also be tied with a dubbed body for trout and panfish. Rubber leg nymphs like this are just about his favorite flies to tie and fish. The movement of the legs and tail and the overall buggy appearance make them real fish catchers.
Here’s the recipe for the Aurora Nymph fly.
Hook: size 12 or 14 scud or size 12 or 14 jig.
Bead: 1/8″ for size 12, 7/64″ for size 14, gold or copper.
Thread: 8/0, black or olive.
Tail and legs: fine round rubber, brown or tan.
Body: UTC mirage tinsel, size large.
Ribbing: small gold or copper wire.
Thorax: peacock ice dub.
Wing case: UTC mirage tinsel, size large.
Our Fly-Tying Classes are open to everyone – you do not have to be a member to attend. Generally, we tie one fly, but we tie it twice. An instructor demonstrates, step-by-step, how to tie the fly with accompanying video on a big screen TV so students can see each step.
Tools and materials are provided at no cost, but if you have your own tools feel free to bring them.
Beginners are welcome. There will be experienced tiers available to provide individual help.
