Resources and Apps for Fish Identification

Ever caught a fish you’ve not seen before and can’t identify? Or just want to settle a difference of opinion with your fishing buddy whether you just caught a cutthroat or a western rainbow? This article (and included links to various fish identification apps) can help you with that. It is a page on the Seattle Yacht Club’s web site that was brought to our attention by a couple of Boy Scouts working on their fishing badge. Some of the apps can identify your fish from a picture you provide — pretty neat!!

DIY Gyotaku Fish Printing

This is a link recommended by Jon Fillingham, Lead Natural Resources Management Specialist, Nolin River Lake, US Army Corps of Engineers. It’s a video demonstrating a DIY technique to create a print of your prize catch. Jon had a booth at our 2023 Fly Show and provided a lot of valuable and interesting information about Nolin River Lake, Barren River and other water bodies in south central Kentucky. Thanks to Jon for recommending this link.
